(Greensboro, N.C.)- Greensboro Grasshopper infielder J.T. Riddle had one simple answer about earning South Atlantic League Offensive Player of the Week for July 21-July 28.
"I feel like Asheville is the place for me," Riddle said. "I've been there twice and I feel every time I'm getting two or three hits a game."
Riddle went 13-for-26 in six games with three doubles, two home runs, five RBIs and 10 runs scored. Riddle only struckout twice in the six games. Three of the six games took place in Asheville last week.
"I just been in a groove lately and seeing the ball well," Riddle said. "It's a real honor for me, especially since I started the year off slow and got hurt."
The 22-year-old hit .237/.299/.314 in 41 first-half games before coming out in the second half hitting 354/.385/.571 in 35 games.
"I don't think anything is different with me, I just found my groove," Riddle said. "At times you are going to struggle and sometimes you feel like a beach ball is coming at you. "
Riddle, a 13th-round pick out of the University of Kentucky in 2013, currently has a 12-game hitting streak that started on July 16 at home against the Delmarva Shorebirds. He joins Avery Romero as the second Hopper to earn Offensive Player of the Week honors this season.
