Cedar Rapids, IA - The Cedar Rapids Kernels and Minnesota Twins announce that RHP Aaron Slegers has been promoted to Fort Myers (FSL), LHP Matt Batts will join the Kernels from Elizabethton (APPY) and OF Zack Granite has been activated from the 7-day DL and assigned to the GCL Twins. Brad Steil, Director of Minor League Operations for the Twins, announced the move.
The Twins selected Batts in the 17th round of the 2014 First Year Player Draft out of the University of North Carolina Charlotte. He has split time this season between the GCL Twins and Elizabethton, posting a combined 2-1 record and 1.41 ERA in seven games (five starts). In 32 IP, he allowed 19 hits and six runs (five earned) with four walks and 34 strikeouts. He was named the Colonial Athletic Association Pitcher of the Year in 2013 and 2014.
Slegers made 20 starts for the Kernels, posting a 7-7 record and 4.53 ERA. In 113.1 IP, he allowed 118 hits and 68 runs (57 earned) with 20 walks and 90 strikeouts.
Granite went on the DL back on July 5th with a left quad strain. In 21 games for the Kernels, he is batting .291 with two doubles, two triples and two RBI.
Batts is active and available for tonight's 7:00 pm game at Beloit. With today's transactions, the Kernels roster is at 25 active players, with five players currently on the DL and one player on the suspended list.
The Kernels begin a three game road trip tonight at 7:00 pm against the Beloit Snappers. They return home to Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Monday, August 4th and open a seven game home stand with games against Wisconsin and Kane County.
