Cedar Rapids, IA - The Minnesota Twins have announced that infielder Joe Mauer and RHP Ricky Nolasco will make rehab stints with the Kernels on Tuesday, August 5th.
Mauer is scheduled to be in Cedar Rapids on Monday and will take batting practice with the team. If all goes well, he is expected to play with the Kernels on Tuesday, August 5th against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers.
Nolasco is scheduled to make a rehab start with the Kernels on Tuesday as well.
The Kernels will open the gates for Monday's game at 3:00 pm so that fans may watch batting practice. Gates will also open at 3:00 pm on Tuesday for BP. Game time both nights is set for 6:35 pm.
Joe Mauer is the younger brother of Kernels manager, Jake Mauer. Both Mauer's played in the Midwest League with Quad Cities in 2002.
In light of fan interest, the Kernels have expanded their ticket office hours over the weekend. The Kernels Ticket Office will be open on Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to 4 pm. Fans may call the ticket office directly at (319) 896-7560 or order tickets on-line anytime at www.kernels.com.
Mauer and Nolasco are the second and third Twins players to make rehab starts with the Kernels. Pitcher Mike Pelfrey made a rehab start with the Kernels on July 1, 2013.
The Kernels begin a three game road trip tonight at 7:00 pm against the Beloit Snappers. They return home to Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Monday, August 4th and open a seven game home stand with games against Wisconsin and Kane County.
