Volcanoes pitchers thrive in scoreless duel

EUGENE, Ore. - All of the stars aligned at P.K. Tuesday night, as the premier talent took the field for the 2014 Northwest League All-Star Game. 

Despite the game ending in a scoreless tie through 10 innings, members of the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes still found a way to make their mark on the mid-summer classic.

Jose Reyes and Eury Sanchez each did their part in shutting down the North Division's offense. Reyes served as the first pitcher out of the bullpen for the South. He promptly delivered a 1-2-3 inning in relief of starter Nicholas Baker.

Sanchez followed up with a perfect inning of his own. Retiring three straight with a strikeout in the fifth inning.

Infielders Christian Arroyo and T Relaford made impacts defensively at different parts of the game. Arroyo snagged a screaming liner off the bat of Roemon Fields, the first hitter of the game.

Relaford contributed with one of the biggest defensive plays of the night. With runners on the corners and one out in the fourth inning, Relaford threw out Seth Spivey of the Spokane Indians at home plate on a double steal attempt.

Pitcher's from both sides dominated the night, allowing just nine combined hits in 10 complete innings of play.

The game was called after 10 frames due to an innings limit that was announced prior to the game in case of extra innings. Jose Trevino of the Spokane Indians was named the game's Most Valuable Player. He finished the night 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles.

Up Next: The Volcanoes return home to Volcanoes Stadium after the All-Star break on Thursday to open up a three-game series with the Boise Hawks. First pitch for that series opening game is set for 6:35 p.m.
