Wright's Near No-No Highlights Easy Blaze Win, 8-2

Daniel Wright continued the Bakersfield Blaze starting pitchers' recent dominance, going 7.0 innings before allowing a hit to the visiting San Jose Giants, and the Blaze homered three times in a relatively painless 8-2 win, the team's third victory in a row.

Despite the big offensive output and a visit to Sam Lynn Ballpark from Bash Brother Jose Canseco, the story on this Tuesday night was the dominant work of Daniel Wright (W, 7-4).

Wright, working off a strong 6.0-inning effort his last time out, one-upped himself in a big way. Dan sailed through the first three innings, nine batters up, and nine down.

The Giants got their only early baserunner in the 4th on an error, but Wright picked off Giants centerfielder Jesus Galindo, and went back to work, eventually firing seven innings without allowing a hit.

In the 8th, on a 2-2 count, Wright left a slider over the plate and Mitch Delfino singled to center, a clean knock to break up the no-hitter, and the next batter, Tyler Horan, homered. Wright eventually got one more out, going 7.1 frames in total, and El'Hajj Muhammad worked a rather eventful final 1.2 innings to wrap it up.

Meanwhile, the Blaze offense went to work from the first moment to last, scoring two in the first on a Zach Vincej triple and Jeff Gelalich homer.

Two innings later, Vincej again scored, this time on a Sean Buckley double, and Marquez Smith followed with a three-run bomb to put Bakersfield up 6-0.

The Blaze got one final run off Giants starter Pat Young (L, 9-4) when Vincej singled home Sebastian Elizalde, who homered in the 6th off Jorge Bucardo for the last Blaze run.

The win is the third in a row for a Blaze team riding a tidal wave of dominant pitching to a nice run, and the club remains just a game back of Stockton for the best record in the North.

The series with San Jose wraps up with a Wednesday morning double-header beginning at 11:00am. In a Monday make-up game, the Blaze will be offering both Monday and Wednesday promotions to fans who attend, meaning General Admission tickets and hot dogs are just a buck (while supplies last), and fans bringing electronic waste to the park get in for free, thanks to Bakersfield Hyundai and Alianza Recycling.
