Wappingers Falls, NY (8/7/14)--The Hudson Valley Renegades earned their six straight victory and stayed undefeated in the month of August, defeating the Williamsport Crosscutters 5-2. Hunter Lockwood led the way at the dish going 2-3 with a solo home run, a double, two RBIs and two runs scored. The Renegades improve to 38-15 overall and 21-3 at Dutchess Stadium.

Lockwood put his team on the board first in the bottom of the second inning, launching his twelfth home run of the season to left-field. The Renegades carried a 1-0 lead into the top of the third, where Hunter Wood tossed another scoreless frame.

After Williamsport tied the game in the top half of the fourth inning, Hudson Valley responded with three runs of their own in the bottom half. Bralin Jackson led off the rally with a single to center-field and then moved to second on an error. Jackson advanced ninety feet to third base on a single by Casey Gillaspie, and came around to score on a sacrifice fly from Grant Kay. Lockwood continued his excellent day at the plate, roping a triple inside the right-field line to score Gillaspie from first base. Coty Blanchard capped the inning for Hudson Valley with an RBI single to center-field to give Hudson Valley a 4-1 lead.

Hunter Wood picked up his 2nd win of the season in his 10th start, tossing six innings of two-run baseball and striking out five. He departed after the 6th inning with his club leading 4-2.

Daniel Miles provided the insurance for the Renegades in the 7th, lining a one-out triple to right-field. He then came around to score on a Wilmer Dominguez ground out. Miles' run pushed the Hudson Valley lead to 5-2.

Edwin Fierro came on in relief and pitched two perfect innings in the 7th and 8th, while Justin McClavin earned his first save in the top of the ninth. The two combined for three innings with a strikeout and no runs surrendered.

Notes: Grant Kay is hitting .769 at home in 2014, and .430 overall. His 3-hit performance gives him six multi-hit games over his last ten. Hudson Valley is now the first team in the New York-Penn League to reach 38 wins, and hold a ten game advantage of the Brooklyn Cyclones in first place of the McNamara Division. They have the best home winning percentage and the top road winning percentage out of all fourteen teams in the league.
