August 17, 2014

HUNTSVILLE, ALA. (AUGUST 17, 2014) - The Generals (25-31/56-69) scored six runs in the third inning Sunday, but lost their fourth game in-a-row, 8-6 to the Huntsville Stars (26-30/72-54) at Joe Davis Stadium. The Stars whittled away at the 6-0 Jackson lead and came from behind to end a four-game skid of their own and take the opener of the series.

Jackson's offense began the scoring in a big way in the third inning. Leon Landry (3x5, R, 3B) tripled to get things going and Tyler Smith (2x4, R, 2 RBI, HR, BB) followed with his first Double-A home run to make the score 2-0. D.J. Peterson (1x4, R, BB) followed with a single, Pat Kivlehan (0x5, R) reached on an error and Jordy Lara (1x5, R, HR, 3 RBI) added a three-run homer to increase the early lead to 5-0. Dario Pizzano (3x4, R, 2B, HR, RBI) came up next and also went yard as the Generals hit back-to-back homers for just the second time this season. The lead ballooned to 6-0 after the top of the third.

Huntsville was not phased as they began to chip away in the bottom of the inning. Josh Fellhauer doubled home Nick Ramirez and Yadiel Rivera followed with a groundout that brought in Josh Prince and the lead was quickly cut to 6-2.

An inning later the Stars shortened the lead again as Hector Gimenez led off the frame with a solo home run to left field and the Jackson lead was 6-3.

Ramirez led off the bottom of the seventh with his 20th double of the season and came home on a base hit from Prince to shrink the lead once again, 6-4.

Huntsville was not done yet, as Ramirez hit the first grand slam against Jackson all year in the eighth inning to give his team the 8-6 lead.

Kevin Shackelford (2-3, 5.36) picked up the win for Huntsville as he pitched to just one batter in the eighth inning. The loss went to Mayckol Guaipe (1-3, 2.54) as he allowed two of the four runs off the grand slam in 0.2 of an inning. It spoiled a good start from Cam Hobson (8-9, 3.93) as he went 5.2 innings and allowed just three runs on five hits and struck out four. David Goforth pitched a scoreless ninth to earn his 25th save of the year.

The Generals will attempt to end their four-game losing streak Monday against the Stars in Huntsville. Jackson will send lefty Tyler Olson (7-7, 3.80) to the mound as Jacob Barnes (2-5, 4.36) will make the start for Huntsville. The game will begin at 6:30 p.m. and can be heard on 96.5 ESPN, TuneIn Radio and jacksongeneralsbaseball.com.
