Thunder Throw Two-Hitter, Fall 2-1

August 19, 2014

Fisher Cats starter Michael Lee outdueled a host of Thunder pitchers in a 2-1 victory for New Hampshire on Tuesday night at ARM & HAMMER Park.

Lee surrendered an RBI triple to shortstop Ali Castillo in the bottom of the second inning then retired the next ten batters he faced before a two-out single by Tyler Austin in the sixth. Lee worked around a leadoff single in the seventh inning to finish off his longest start of the season with the Fisher Cats.

Luis Severino, activated from the disabled list prior to Tuesday's game, started and suffered his first loss despite allowing only one hit in three innings. After retiring the side in order in each of the first two innings, Kevin Nolan drew a leadoff walk and two batters later Dalton Pompey hit a two-run home run to give the Fisher Cats the only offense they'd need in support of Lee. It was the first home run allowed by Severino since May 25th, when he was a member of the Charleston Riverdogs, a span of 61.1 innings.

The Thunder threatened in the bottom of the ninth inning when Francisco Arcia and Dante Bichette Jr. singled to put two runners on with one out. After Mason Williams grounded out to put runners on second and third, Dan Fiorito struck out against Gregory Infante to end the game.

Severino combined with Jacob Lindgren, Nick Goody and Danny Burawa for a two-hitter. Thunder pitching allowed just four baserunners total and struck out six Fisher Cats.

Bichette Jr. went 2-for-3 with a walk and a run scored to lead the Thunder offense. New Hampshire pitching held the Thunder to just six hits and two walks.

The Thunder continue their three-game homestand on Wednesday night against the Fisher Cats. New Hampshire will send RHP P.J. Walters (1-1, 3.52), the Thunder will send LHP Daniel Camarena (1-5, 6.62). The Thunder will welcome Hideki Matsui to ARM & HAMMER Park on Wednesday night.
