Torres and Cutters Walk Off
Thursday night at Susquehanna Bank Park at Bowman Field the Cutters took the season series from Mahoning Valley in walk-off fashion 2-1.
Deivi Grullon tripled and scored the tying run on a Jan Hernandez RBI single in the seventh inning.
Grullon led off the bottom of the ninth inning drawing a walk and was pinch run for by Chase Harris. Jan Hernandez then laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Harris to second base with one out.
Robinson Torrres then singled into shallow left center field off Scrappers reliever Cortland Cox (0-1) and Harris scored without a throw to complete the walk-off win 2-1.
Cutters starter Alejandro Arteaga was outstanding going six innings allowing a run on five hits and striking out a season high eight batters.
Cutters relievers were again lights out with Edubray Ramos allowing just one hit and struck out three in seven batters faced. Calvin Rayburn (2-1) picked up the win after a perfect ninth inning.
With the win the Cutters (30-35) take the season series from Mahoning Valley (6-4).
Next for the Cutters is a 5-game road trip beginning with a 3-game series in Auburn, New York tomorrow night at 7:05 p.m.
The Cutters return home next Friday, August 29, 2014 to face Jamestown at 7:05 p.m. to conclude the regular season schedule.
