Trenton Bests Harrisburg in Sens' Home Finale
Simmons and Benincasa combine for five scoreless innings
08/24/2014 5:42 PM ET

The Harrisburg Senators fell in their home finale of 2014 to the Trenton Thunder, 7-3, on Sunday afternoon before 5,378 fans at Metro Bank Park.

Trenton scored early and often with a single run in the first followed by four tallies in the second against Harrisburg's Austin Voth. The Thunder added a run in the third and fourth as well off Brian Dupra, but from there on the Senators pitching was impressive. James Simmons faced the minimum nine batters in his three shutout innings. Robert Benincasa followed with two scoreless innings of his own.

Harrisburg's first run came on an RBI single by Jason Martinson that plated Ricky Hague in the third inning. The Senators' offense stayed quiet until the ninth inning when Oscar Tejeda tripled with a long fly ball off the center field fence. Cole Leonida followed with an RBI double down the third base line. Two batters later, Caleb Ramsey singled home Leonida for the final Senators' run.

Tomorrow night the Senators will be in Manchester, New Hampshire to finish a suspended game from July 27 with the Fisher Cats. The suspended game will resume at 6:05 p.m., followed by the regularly scheduled game which starts a four-game set. Felipe Rivero will start for Harrisburg in the originally planned game tomorrow against New Hampshire's P.J. Walters.
The games can be heard beginning with the pregame show at 6:00 p.m. on 1460 AM or via senatorsbaseball.com, 1460theticket.com or the iHeart Radio app.
