Haniger walk-off gives Mobile win in extras

August 25, 2014

MOBILE, AL - Mitch Haniger delivered the game-winning walk-off RBI single against his former team on Sunday night as the BayBears topped the Huntsville Stars 5-4 in 11 innings at Hank Aaron Stadium. The former Stars outfielder finished the game going 3-for-4 with three RBI's in just his third game with the BayBears since joining Mobile in a trade between the Milwaukee Brewers and Arizona Diamondbacks in July.

The BayBears jumped out to an early two-run lead in the bottom of the first inning. Evan Marzilli walked and scored on a base hit from Brandon Drury. Arginus Diaz who had reached on a single and advanced to third would come in to score when Stars LHP Jed Bradley threw over to third and the throw went into the third base stands. Mobile scored again in the bottom of third inning when Diaz scored on a RBI double from Haniger.

After the Stars scored their first two runs in the top of the fourth inning and then took a 4-3 lead with two runs in the top of the seventh inning, Ryan Court tied the game at 4-4 when the BayBears first baseman evened the score with a solo homerun in the bottom of the eighth, sitting up the extra inning drama for Haniger in the 11th.

RHP Aaron Blair had to settle for a no decision, allowing just two earned runs on four hits in six innings, walking one and striking out four batters on the mound. The win was credited to RHP Kaleb Fleck who approved to 7-3 after a scoreless inning in the top of the 11th.
