Suns Shutout BayBears, Scoreless Streak Continues

JACKSONVILLE, FL - The Mobile BayBears were shutout by the Jacksonville Suns Sunday night at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville. The BayBears (79-57) fell 6-0 as the Suns (80-59) shutout the Mobile for the second straight game and handed the BayBears their fourth loss in-a-row. With the conclusion of play Sunday night, the BayBears have now been held scoreless for 19 straight innings.

 

LHP Justin Nicolino (14-4) fooled the BayBears' bats, allowing just three hits and striking out six in seven shutout innings. Nicolino, who was named the 2014 Southern League Pitcher of the Year on Friday night, recorded his league-leading 14th victory of the season.

 

Four of the Suns five runs came in the bottom half of fourth inning. After Austin Barns led off the frame with a base hit, the next two batters walked to load the bases. Brady Shoemaker broke the scoreless tie with a two-run double to right, putting Jacksonville up 2-0. Two more runs came across the plate in the bottom of the forth then Shomemaker struck again with a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth inning.


The BayBears wrap up the 2014 regular season against the Suns on Monday before returning to Hank Aaron Stadium on Thursday, September 4, for the start of the 2014 Southern League Playoffs.

 

The series finale between the BayBears and Suns is scheduled for 1:05 PM ET Monday afternoon.
