Pederson's historic '14 nets more honors

Top prospect named Dodgers' co-Minor League Player of the Year
September 26, 2014

When a ballplayer accomplishes something that hadn't been done in 80 years, the accolades have a way of piling up.

Joc Pederson, who became the first Pacific Coast League player since 1934 to record 30 homers and 30 steals in the same season, on Friday was celebrated alongside Corey Seager at Dodger Stadium as the two shared Branch Rickey Minor League Player of the Year honors.

Teenage left-hander Julio Urias was named the Branch Rickey Minor League Pitcher of the Year.

Pederson, a 22-year-old outfielder, batted .303/.435/.582 with 33 homers, 78 RBIs and 30 steals in 121 games with Triple-A Albuquerque. He was named the PCL's MVP and Rookie of the Year, was a member of the league's mid- and postseason All-Star teams and was rewarded with a callup to Los Angeles.

Seager hit .349/.402/.602 with 20 homers and 97 RBIs across 118 games -- 80 at Class A Advanced Rancho Cucamonga and 38 at Double-A Chattanooga. The 20-year-old shortstop was named California League MVP as well as a mid- and postseason All-Star and appeared in the Futures Game.

Urias -- who turned 18 on Aug. 12 -- went 2-2 with a 2.36 ERA in 25 games, including 20 starts, with Rancho Cucamonga. He recorded 109 strikeouts against 37 walks over 87 2/3 innings while holding opponents to a .194 batting average. The native of Mexico also represented the Dodgers at the Futures Game.

Seager, Urias and Pederson rank 1-2-3 among Dodgers prospects and 13th, 14th and 15th among MLB.com's Top 100 overall.

The Branch Rickey awards have been presented by the organization every year since 1989, although this is the first time that co-winners have been named.
