Rob Refsnyder continued to make a strong case for the Yankees' second-base job Monday afternoon, going 2-for-2 with a double, a walk and two runs scored in New York's loss to the Nationals. Refsnyder, who turns 24 on Thursday, is batting .346/.433/.538 in 16 Grapefruit League games and has fanned just six times while drawing four walks. For the Nationals, center fielder Michael Taylor went 1-for-3 with a walk and a fine running catch to rob Brett Gardner of extra bases.

Jon Gray was intent to prove his two innings of adjustments -- and not his one inning of struggle -- were the lessons he took away from his last Cactus League start. Monday afternoon at Salt River Fields, he certainly looked like a pitcher taking a big step forward. The Rockies' top prospect needed only 44 pitches to breeze through four shutout innings, allowing just two hits and striking out two as Colorado took down Milwaukee, 5-1. Gray hadn't allowed a run in his first three spring outings before giving up three tallies in the first inning of his last start on March 18. After giving up a leadoff single to Carlos Gomez in the first on Monday, MLB.com's No. 17 prospect picked off Gomez before striking out Scooter Gennett and Ryan Braun. The right-hander then retired the side in order in the second and third and allowed only a two-out single to Braun in the fourth before closing his day.
