Hermosillo helps Bees outlast Kernels

Delgado and Hermosillo combine for six hits in win

(Burlington-IA)- Michael Hermosillo drove a two out single to left, scoring Erick Salcedo in the 12th inning, sending the Bees to their second straight win over the Cedar Rapids Kernels at Community Field.

Bees' starter Sean Newcomb and Kernels' starter Felix Jorge, traded scoreless innings for the first three frames of the ball game. Jorge's first six outs recorded, were strikeouts, striking out the side in the first and the second.

The Bees' opened the scoring in the fourth inning. Zach Houchins led off the inning with a single and moved to third on a Natanael Delgado single. After the next two hitters were retired, Michael Hermosillo blooped a single to center, scoring Houchins, giving the Bees a 1-0 lead.

In a steady rain, the Kernels were able to get their way on the board in the sixth. Pat Kelly led off the inning with a single and moved to second on a Tanner English walk. After both runners moved up 90 feet on a groundout by Nick Gordon. Zack Larson tied the game at one with a groundout to first, scoring Kelly from third. 

The Kernels bullpen went on to retire 12 Bees hitters in a row before Natanael Delgado singled in the eighth. Ryan Seiz then struck out swinging, stranding Delgado, keeping the game knotted at one.

For the first time this season the Bees would head to extra innings. With one out in the bottom of the 12th, Natanael Delgado would collect his fourth hit of the game. After a strikeout, Brandon Gildea walked. Erick Salcedo would pinch run for Delgado and would score on a Michael Hermosillo single to left-center, giving the Bees to 2-1 win in 12 innings.

Bees' reliever (2-0) Jake Jewell tossed three scoreless innings, on his was to the win. Sam Clay (0-1) was charged with the loss for Cedar Rapids.

Natanael Delgado collected a season high four hits, while Michael Hermosillo singled twice, driving in a pair in the Bees' win.
