Smith's Arm, Jagielo's Bat Key 4-0 Thunder Win

ERIE, PA - Scattering three hits throughout the game, Trenton's pitching staff combined on its fourth shutout of the season in a 4-0 victory over the Erie SeaWolves at Jerry Uht Park.

Starting pitcher Caleb Smith was activated off the 7-Day Disabled List (left hand) prior to starting Sunday's ballgame, and he offered five shutout innings in victory. Smith, who improved to 2-3, lowered his season ERA to 5.14 by allowing just one hit and one walk while striking out three. He passed the ball off to Conor Mullee for a scoreless 6th and 7th inning, with Kyle Haynes finishing the game with a final two frames.

The Thunder got on the board in the top of the 3rd inning with two runs from Eric Jagielo (2-for-5, 2B, HR, R, 3 RBI). After a leadoff single from Danny Oh (2-for-5), Jagielo followed two batters later with his league-leading 8th home run of the season to put the Thunder ahead. Jagielo's home run was his third at Jerry Uht Park and his fourth against the SeaWolves this season in 10 games. The Thunder DH added an RBI later in the game, when he doubled off the right field wall with two outs in the 7th inning to score Aaron Judge from first base with two outs.

The only other run for the Thunder came in the 4th inning on an RBI groundout by Dan Fiorito to score Taylor Dugas from third base after Taylor had gotten aboard on his second double of the game. Jose Rosario continued his hot hitting and raised his batting average to .221 on the season after going 3-for-3 in the game. Overall, Rosario is 7-for-11 in the first three games of the series

The Thunder and SeaWolves conclude their four-game series Monday with a scheduled 1:35 p.m. first pitch. Taking the ball for the Thunder in the finale is RHP Eric Ruth (1-0, 2.01) who has tossed 18.2 consecutive scoreless innings entering his start, and he will be opposed by RHP Chad Green (2-5, 4.81) for the SeaWolves.
