Prospect Roundup: Games of June 5

Twins' Buxton collects three hits, Tigers' Farmer earns sixth victory
June 6, 2015

Tigers RHP Buck Farmer, Triple-A Toledo: 7 IP, 5 H, 1 R, 1 BB, 4 K, W -- Farmer's sixth victory ties him for second in the International League, and his 2.78 ERA is seventh. Over this last 26 1/3 innings, dating back to May 17, he's surrendered five runs -- four earned -- and posted a win in three of four of those starts. Four of the five hits the 24-year-old righty permitted Friday were singles, and he's allowed one home run over 58 1/3 Triple-A innings all season.

Twins OF Byron Buxton, Double-A Chattanooga: 3-for-5, R, K -- Buxton recovered nicely from an 0-for-4, two-strikeout Thursday to slap out three singles and score in the Lookouts' win Friday. The 21-year-old Georgian has now collected multiple hits in 16 different Southern League games, including one on Wednesday. He's batting .264 with a .326 on-base percentage, 23 extra-base knocks (11 of them triples) and 16 thefts. The Twins' top prospect tried to swipe another bag Friday, but Cubs prospect Kyle Schwarber cut him down. It was only the second time Buxton has been caught this year.

Rays 3B Tyler Goeddel, Double-A Montgomery: 4-for-5, HR, 2 RBIs -- Goeddel logged his sixth four-hit game since Tampa Bay drafted him in Compensation Round A in 2011, and his first of the season. The home run was his third of the year, with the other two coming in consecutive games on April 16 and 17. The 22-year-old third baseman had been in a serious funk (0-for-12) since the calendar flipped to June, so the big game should give him a confidence boost entering the weekend.

Nationals 3B Drew Ward, Class A Advanced Potomac: 3-for-5, HR, 3 R -- Ward has opened the month on a 9-for-18 tear, and the 2013 third-rounder has tallied eight total bases in his last two games. Having slugged 10 home runs with Class A Hagerstown in his first full season last year, the 20-year-old third sacker has left the yard three times in the first two months of the season while posting a .347 on-base percentage.

Rockies 2B Forrest Wall, Class A Asheville: 3-for-5, 3B 3 R, SB -- The 19-year-old middle infielder put together his second consecutive multiple-hit performance and scored three runs for the first times since he did it for Rookie-level Grand Junction last July 31. His stolen base was his 10th of the year, and his triple was his sixth. With seven hits so far in June, Wall is batting .264 with a .342 on-base percentage.
