Prospect Roundup: Games of June 12

Guerra, Pompey blast two round-trippers each; De Jong fans 10
June 13, 2015

Blue Jays OF Dalton Pompey, Double-A New Hampshire: 3-for-5, 2 HR, 4 RBIs, 3 R -- Pompey got off to a slow start upon returning to the Minors after staring the season in the Majors. But the 22-year-old switch hitter is turning it around of late, hitting .359 with eight RBIs and all three of his 2015 jacks in the past 10 games. Pompey belted his fifth career multi-homer game, leaving the yard twice for the first time since 2013 with Class A Lansing.

Seattle RHP Edwin Diaz, Double-A Jackson: W, 7 IP, 3 H, R, ER, 7 K, 2 BB -- The 21-year-old right-hander was off to a dominant start this season, posting a 1.70 ERA in seven starts for Class A Advanced Bakersfield, but the transition to Double-A has been a little more challenging. Diaz allowed a run in the first but then settled down for four perfect frames. The Puerto Rico native worked in and out of trouble in the sixth and seventh, bringing his ERA down to 5.57 -- the lowest its been since his promotion to the Southern League -- and earning his first Double-A win.

Rangers OF Nomar Mazara, Double-A Frisco: 3-for-5, 4 RBIs, 3B, R -- By the way Mazara has been swinging the bat lately, he's on pace to destroy Texas League record books, driving in one more run than the day prior for the past four games. After going yard in back-to-back contests, the 20-year-old left-handed hitter took a night off from homering, but still managed to tie a career high in RBIs. With his second triple of the campaign, Mazara tied his 2013 total and is one shy of matching his career high for three-baggers.

Dodgers RHP Jeff Brigham, Class A Advanced Rancho Cucamonga: W, 7 IP, 3 H, R, ER, 6 K -- After a tough relief appearance in his last outing, the 25-year-old right-hander rebounded for one of his best starts since his promotion to the California League. Brigham held Stockton to one hit over the first six frames before running into trouble in the seventh. For his first win since May 9, the University of Washington product forced 13 groundouts and did not allow a home run for the fourth straight game.

Blue Jays RHP Chase De Jong: Class A Lansing: W, 7 IP, 4 H, 10 K, 2 BB -- Repeating the Midwest League seems to be paying off for De Jong, who has already surpassed his 2014 wins total and is seven strikeouts away from passing last season's punchout mark as he moves to the rotation full time. The 21-year-old was on track for his first career shutout, but unfortunately for him, so was the opposing pitcher. With the game scoreless after seven in the nightcap of a doubleheader, De Jong turned the ball over, but held on for his second straight win as he set a career high in strikeouts.

Red Sox SS Javier Guerra, Class A Greenville: 2-for-4, 2 HR, 4 RBIs, 2 R -- While power isn't often the tool of choice when talking about Guerra, he has certainly shown it off this month. After kicking off June by homering in back-to-back games for the first time, the 19-year-old collected his first career multi-homer game. Guerra's .545 slugging percentage for the third month of the season is the highest he's ever had for a single month in his three pro seasons. Guerra ranks second in the South Atlantic League with a .515 slugging for the entire campaign.
