Prospect Roundup: Games of June 26

Merritt tosses shutout for Akron, Arcia notches two extra-base hits
June 27, 2015

Indians LHP Ryan Merritt, Double-A Akron: 7 IP, 4 H, 3 K, 1 BB, W, SHO -- In Merritt's first career shutout, the 23-year-old southpaw outdueled Phillies prospect Ben Lively and reached 34 1/3 innings pitched over five starts in the month of June. He was touched for seven runs on 12 hits over seven frames his last time out, on June 20 against Erie, but on Friday night he limited Reading to three singles and a double and never allowed two men to reach in the same inning. He's now 5-6 with a 3.59 ERA over 14 Double-A starts.

Brewers SS Orlando Arcia, Double-A Biloxi: 2-for-5, 3B, 2B, 2 RBIs, 2 R -- Milwaukee's top prospect posted his second consecutive game with two hits, and he's safely slapped his way aboard in every game since June 18. The two-bagger was his 20th of the season, which matches him with Montgomery's Patrick Leonard for most in the Southern League; the triple was his second. Arcia is batting .312, 18 points higher than he's hit in any of his previous three professional seasons.

Reds 3B Taylor Sparks, Class A Advanced Daytona: 4-for-4, 2 2B, 3 RBIs -- Sparks, a defensive whiz, logged his first four-hit game of the season and second since being drafted out of the UC Irvine in the second round last year. Although this was his second game with two doubles in the last couple weeks, the big day at the plate broke him out of a 2-for-22 skid and the three RBIs match a career high.

Phillies OF Cord Sandberg, Class A Lakewood: 3-for-4, HR, 2B, 4 RBIs, 2 R -- Sandberg's fine performance makes him 6-for-8 over his last two games, and he's battled from a .197 average on June 13 to a more respectable .234 mark. While falling a triple shy of the cycle the 20-year-old Floridian set a season high with his four RBIs, one short of the career high he set for Class A Short Season Williamsport in his fourth pro game last June 17.

Angels RHP Austin Robichaux, Class A Burlington: 6 IP, 4 H, 1 BB, 4 K, W -- After Robichaux set a career high with eight punchouts last time out, the 22-year-old righty earned his sixth straight victory with six more scoreless innings on Friday. He didn't allow an extra-base hit and got 10 groundouts compared to one flyout. Robichaux is 7-2 with a 3.31 ERA over 73 1/3 Midwest League frames.
