Prospect Roundup: Games of July 23

Robles busts out for Nats, O's Gonzalez and Sisco have big nights
July 24, 2015

Pirates OF Harold Ramirez, Class A Advanced Bradenton: 3-for-4, HR, 3 RBI, 2 R -- The 20-year-old Colombian outfielder posted encouraging results with Class A West Virginia in 2014 but nothing like what he's done so far this season. In 40 games with the Marauders, he owns a .370/.416/.506 line with two homers. There isn't a ton of power projection left for Ramirez, who is listed at 5-foot-10, 210 pounds, and he hasn't been particularly good on the bases, going 13-of-23 in stolen base attempts. Otherwise, there's little not to like about the Pittsburgh prospect, who should open 2016 at Double-A.

Orioles C Chance Sisco, Class A Advanced Frederick: 2-for-4, HR, RBI, R, K -- The power hasn't quite materialized yet for the 20-year-old backstop, but there's no question he can hit. Sisco has a .301/.389/.399 line with the Keys this season, striking out just 28 times in 56 games. He's also 7-for-7 on stolen base attempts. Sisco still has to prove he can get his defense behind the plate to an adequate level, but if he does, he could be an above-average regular behind the dish thanks to his bat.

Marlins OF K.J. Woods, Class A Greensboro: 3-for-6, 2 HR, 2 RBI, 2 R, BB -- Woods just turned 20 and is already listed at 6-foot-3, 230 pounds, so, as you'd expect, power is the calling card here. He's tapped into it with increasing regularity this month, slugging seven homers and posting a .723 slugging percentage in 17 games. Woods has 12 homers and a .527 slugging percentage this season despite being on the younger side among South Atlantic League hitters. Those numbers are inflated a bit by Greensboro's friendly home park, but Woods also has a .245/.362/.481 line on the road.

Orioles LHP Brian Gonzalez, Class A Delmarva: 6 IP, 5 H, R, ER, BB, 7 K -- It's been a rough first full season for Gonzalez, who rode pitchability with solid stuff to a third-round selection in the 2014 Draft. He's been unexpectedly wild this season, walking 47 batters over 87 innings, and the lack of command has limited his strikeouts, too. Thursday's start was his longest since early June and his best since May but only brought his ERA down to 5.48 in 19 starts with the Shorebirds this season.

Nationals OF Victor Robles, Class A Short Season Auburn: 4-for-5, HR, 3B, 2 RBI, R, K -- Perhaps no player in the Minors has seen his stock rise faster since the short-season leagues opened than Robles, who entered the year hyped for his tools but had yet to play a game in the United States. After torching the Rookie-level Gulf Coast League with a .370/.484/.562 line, Robles jumped to the New York-Penn League, where the 18-year-old has a .500/.522/.900 line through five games. Robles has five-tool potential and is showing remarkable polish for his age. If you're looking for a sleeper to blossom into an elite prospect in the next year or two, Robles would be on the short list of best bets.
