Knapp Shuts Out 'Jackets In Rain-Shortened Victory

August 18, 2015

Augusta, GA - The Savannah Sand Gnats needed just one run to beat the Augusta GreenJackets for their 15th straight victory, 1-0, on Tuesday. The Sand Gnats have won 21 of their last 22 games.

The Sand Gnats (33-17/72-48) scored in the opening frame for the second night in a row. A two-out single from RF Wuilmer Becerra and a walk issued to DH Eudor Garcia set the table in the first. 1B Michael Katz scored Becerra for the game's only run with an RBI-single to right field.

Augusta (28-23/61-59) was baffled at the plate, managing three hits off Gnats' starter Ricky Knapp (7-2). Knapp earned the complete game shutout victory, his second complete game this season. The Port Charlotte, FL native struck out a career-high tying eight batters, a record he tied once before in Augusta on June 20th.

The Sand Gnats and 'Jackets will conclude their three game series tomorrow at 7:05 pm. Savannah will start RHP Casey Delgado (6-3, 3.32), while Augusta will send LHP Mark Reyes (6-3, 2.58) to the hill. Savannah will return home on Thursday to take on the Kannapolis Intimidators for a four game series at Historic Grayson Stadium.
