BayBears Salvage Series With Doubleheader Split

August 22, 2015

JACKSONVILLE, FL - The Mobile BayBears (29-24, 63-59) snapped a four game losing streak, taking a split in a doubleheader against the Jacksonville Suns (22-33, 51-73) on Saturday night at The Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville. The Suns took game one with a 4-0 win but in game two, Mobile rebounded with a 1-0 shutout victory. The BayBears now sit in third place in the Southern League South Division Standings, one game back of the first-place Pensacola Blue Wahoos.

The BayBears fell behind early in game one. Jacksonville posted four runs in the first frame. Kenny Wilson reached third on a triple in the Suns first at bat. After a pop up from Carlos Lopez, David Adams drew a one-out walk to reach first, putting runners at first and third. Viosergy Rosa struck out for the second out of the inning but Matt Juengel reached safely with an infield single in the next at bat. His 62nd RBI of the season gave Jacksonville a 1-0 lead. The next batter, Terrence Dayleg then followed with a three-run homerun to left that gave the Suns a 4-0 advantage.

Jacksonville's fifth run of the game was scored on a sacrifice fly from Sharif Othman in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Mobile was limited by Suns starting LHP Chipper Smith (3-3) who held the BayBears scoreless, allowing just three hits, walking three and striking out four in 5.1 innings of work. The loss was charged to BayBears RHP Edgar Garcia (4-1) who allowed four runs on three hits while walking four and striking out four in four full innings on the mound.

In game two, Mobile needed just one run to get the win and that's what Sean Jamieson provided. With the game still scoreless in the top of the sixth inning, Jamieson hit a solo homerun to left, giving Mobile the 1-0 lead. The shutout was the BayBears 11th of the season.

The Suns were limited by BayBears RHP Gabriel Arias who shutout Jacksonville on just two hits over 5.1 innings, walking two and striking out eight. Despite the shutout performance, Arias did not factor in the decision. LHP Daniel Gibson (1-0) earned his first Double-A win, recording the final two outs in the sixth inning while RHP Silvino Bracho earned his 16th save of the season with a scoreless outing in the seventh.
