Royals Roll To Second Straight Win

Three different players record three hits

The Burlington Royals offense shifted into high gear on Monday evening, pounding out nine runs on 15 hits in a 9-1 win over the Princeton Rays. The win earned the Royals their first series victory since August 4-6 against Pulaski.

How It Happened

The Royals (26-34) were quick out of the gate with three runs in the first inning. 2B Brian Bien led off with a double and advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt. CF Ben Johnson singled him home, and 1B Brandon Dulin singled to follow. DH Xavier Fernandez loaded the bases with a walk. LF Colton Frabasilio hit an RBI single and C Meibrys Viloria added an RBI groundout.

Three more runs scored in the second. 3B Angelo Castellano led off with a single, Bien added a single and went to second on the throw as Castellano was tagged out. RF Tanner Stanley reached on an error, and Johnson walked. Dulin added a two-RBI single to plate Bien and Stanley, and the inning's last run scored on a Fernandez sacrifice fly.

Burlington kept on scoring in the third with an additional run. Viloria singled to lead off the inning and went to third on a wild pitch. SS Jose Martinez singled, and the Royals led 7-0.

Princeton (33-27) got their only run of the game on a solo home run in the sixth from CF Zac Law.

The Royals added two more runs in the seventh to bounce back. Viloria walked to lead off the inning, and Castellano singled with one out. Bien notched his third hit of the day, a double to plate Viloria. Castellano scored on a Stanley sacrifice fly.

Inside The Box Score

  • The Royals' nine runs was their most since a 12-6 win over Elizabethton on July 31.
  • Eight of the nine Royals had hits in the game, and three Royals had three-hit games - Bien, Dulin and Castellano. Dulin's three-hit performance was the most since a 3-for-6 performance on July 24 at Greeneville.
  • RHP Nolan Watson worked a career-high 4.2 innings, allowing no runs on four hits. He walked once and struck out twice.
  • The Royals played error-free defense for the second game in a row. They also played error-free defense in their last series win, August 4-6 against Pulaski.
  • The Royals remain mathematically alive for the postseason with their win.
