Minors suspend Rays' Hadley for 50 games

Gulf Coast League outfielder, 20, hasn't taken the field this season
August 31, 2015

NEW YORK -- Rays Minor Leaguer Jeremy Hadley was suspended for 50 games Monday after testing positive for a banned substance.

The Office of the Commissioner of Baseball said the outfielder received a 50-game suspension without pay after testing positive for an amphetamine, a stimulant in violation of the Minor League Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.

The suspension of Hadley is effective immediately.

Hadley, 20, has not played this season. His last appearance came on July 31, 2014 with the Rookie-level Gulf Coast League Rays, the same club he debuted with in 2013 after Tampa Bay drafted him in the 24th round out of Sachse High School in Texas.

Hadley has hit .195 with a homer, 13 RBIs, a pair of stolen bases and a .277 on-base percentage in 169 at-bats over 51 career Minor League games.

Amphetamines are considered a stimulant and a performance-enhancing substance by the Major League Baseball's Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program. Minor Leaguers who test positive for PEDs are subject to at least a 50-game suspension upon their first violation.

Major League Baseball has issued 80 suspensions to 79 players this year for violations of the Minor League drug program.
