Roundup: 40-man roster additions

Featuring Top-30 prospects protected from Rule 5 Draft by clubs
November 19, 2015

Friday is deadline day, and for some prospects, it could be a very big day.

Friday marks the day on which Rule 5-eligible players must be added to their organization's 40-man rosters in order to be protected from this year's Rule 5 Draft, which will take place on Thursday, Dec. 10, at the Winter Meetings in Nashville.

Players are eligible for the Rule 5 Draft if they have not been added to a 40-man roster within five seasons of signing (if they were 18 or younger at time of signing) or within four seasons (if they were 19 or older at time of signing). If a player is selected in the Rule 5 Draft, he must stay on his new club's 25-man roster or disabled list for the duration of the 2015 season, lest he be returned to his original organization. Delino DeShields (Rangers), J.R. Graham (Twins) and Sean Gilmartin (Mets) are some examples of players from the 2014 Rule 5 Draft who ended up sticking with their new club.

This year, top prospects Tyler Glasnow (Pirates), Orlando Arcia (Brewers) and Nomar Mazara (Rangers) are among those expected to be added to 40-man rosters ahead of Friday's 11:59 p.m. ET deadline. MLB.com's Jonathan Mayo has provided a good breakdown of which top-30 prospects are eligible for this year's Rule 5 Draft.

Here is a running list of top-30 prospects who have officially been added to their organization's 40-man rosters and are thus protected from this year's Rule 5 Draft:
