Unsworth Named Pitcher of the Week

Jackson, Tenn. - The Southern League announced that Generals right-handed pitcher Dylan Unsworth was named Pitcher of the Week on Monday for the period from May 2 to May 8. Unsworth started against Jacksonville Thursday, May 5, taking a no-hitter into the seventh and tossing seven scoreless innings to earn his second victory of the season.

The 23-year-old continued his stellar start to the season Thursday in Jackson's 5-0 win over the Jacksonville Suns. He allowed just two hits and a walk over seven innings to earn the victory. Unsworth retired the first 17 batters he faced before issuing a walk, and J.T. Riddle's one-out single in the seventh was the first Jacksonville hit.

Over his last three starts, Unsworth has combined to give up just one run on 14 hits over 19.2 innings while walking three. His 0.92 ERA ranks second in the Southern League to Tennessee's Paul Blackburn.

This is Unsworth's second Pitcher of the Week Award in his career. He earned one previously in 2014 with the High Desert Mavericks of the California League. It is the first weekly honor for a Generals' player this season.

Unsworth, who spent part of last season with Jackson, is slated to start game two of the team's series with the Birmingham Barons Tuesday night at Regions Field. In five starts so far, the right-hander boasts a 2-0 record to go along with a 0.92 ERA. Opponents are batting just .239 against him.

Jackson embarks on an 11-game road swing to Birmingham and Mobile Monday. Brett Ash (4-1, 2.70) starts the opener for the Generals against Birmingham's Tyler Danish (2-3, 3.38) at Regions Field. The Generals return home for a five-game set against Chattanooga Thursday, May 19.
