May 20, 2016

LANCASTER, Calif. - Garrett Stubbs hit a two-out three-run home run in the sixth inning to complete a long comeback, as the JetHawks swept the Inland Empire 66ers with a 7-6 victory on Thursday night at The Hangar.

After hitting two long balls last night, Stubbs extended his hitting streak to 16 games with his seventh inning blast. The home run came against Inland Empire (11-30) reliever Nate Fury (0-1), who took the loss.

The JetHawks (18-20) took an early lead in the first inning when Drew Ferguson led off with a home run on the first pitch he saw from 66ers starter Jake Jewell. Ferguson added an RBI double, two walks, a stolen base, and scored three runs.

Inland Empire put up five runs in the second inning, all coming with two out, but just one was earned. After a Zach Welz RBI single, JetHawks third baseman Kristian Trompiz committed a fielding error to extend the inning. Two batters later, Hutton Moyer launched a three-run homer to right.

Lancaster put up single runs in the third, fourth, and fifth innings before the big three-spot in the sixth. Yeyfry Del Rosario (1-1) picked up the win in relief, striking out four over 2.1 innings. Eric Peterson notched his second save in as many opportunities. The right-hander retired all five batters he faced and struck out three. The JetHawks went 6-1 on their seven-game homestand against Lake Elsinore and Inland Empire.

The JetHawks travel to Adelanto tomorrow night to open a four-game series against the High Desert Mavericks. Matt Bower (0-0) will start for Lancaster. First pitch is 6:35 p.m.
