Aces' Glaesmann slams Zephyrs

Four unearned runs in second inning provides winning margin
May 24, 2016

Todd Glaesmann's grand slam in the second inning provided all the offense the Reno Aces needed in a 4-1 win over the New Orleans Zephyrs on Tuesday night.

A two-out error by Austin Nola loaded the bases and kept the inning alive for Glaesmann, whose fly ball to left nestled inside the foul pole and barely cleared the wall for his second career grand slam.

All four runs charged to Z's starter Jarred Cosart were unearned, and the right-hander settled in to retire 13 of the final 15 batters he faced while racking up a season-high eight strikeouts.

But the Zephyrs could not get untracked against Reno left-hander Edwin Escobar, who scattered six hits across six scoreless innings. The Z's bounced into three double plays, and had two more runners thrown out on the base paths, including when Isaac Galloway was tagged out at the plate in the fifth attempting to score on a bunt by Cosart.

New Orleans broke up the shutout bid in the eighth by taking advantage of an error by shortstop Jack Reinheimer, but Silvino Bracho struck out two in the ninth inning to close out his league-leading ninth save.

Glaesmann finished a triple shy of the cycle, and is hitting .365 in 14 games since being promoted from Double-A Mobile.

The Z's look to snap a five-game home losing skid in the third game of the series on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
