Generals' Offense Explodes on Biscuits

Team sets season-high with 15 hits in victory, lead up to 4.5 games
May 28, 2016

Montgomery, Ala. - Every starter for the Generals had a hit or an RBI as Jackson took down Montgomery by a convincing 10-1 final Friday night at Riverwalk Stadium. Tyler O'Neill led the way with three hits and three RBIs, while Jordan Pries was nearly spotless on the mound as the Generals increased their lead in the North Division to a season-high 4.5 games.

Jackson (29-18) wasted no time jumping on Montgomery's Jake Faria. The right-hander allowed just one hit over seven innings in his last start, but the Generals rallied for a run on three-straight two-out hits in the first. Leon Landry's single made it 1-0.

Montgomery (24-22) scored its only run in the bottom of the first. Johnny Field led off with a double, stole third and scored on a wild pitch by Jordan Pries. That was the only run Pries allowed in 6.2 innings. He gave up just two hits and a walk while striking out six. Pries retired the final 12 men he faced and 19 of the last 20.

The Generals took the lead for good in the third inning. After Benji Gonzalez singled to extend his hitting streak to 12 games, Guillermo Heredia tripled to put the Generals on top. Tyler O'Neill followed with an opposite-field double to make it 3-1.

It was more of the same in the fifth inning. With two outs and Gonzalez at second, O'Neill smoked his second double of the game to left and Leon Landry drove him in with a single to put the Generals in front 5-1.

Pries continued to deal until being removed with two outs in the seventh and the offense broke the game wide open in the eighth, scoring five runs on five hits while sending ten to the plate against Brett Marshall and Steve Ascher. Marcus Littlewood smashed a two-run double to left-center with the bases loaded as Jackson jumped out to a 7-1 lead. The Generals also got RBIs from Pat Brady, Ian Miller and Tyler O'Neill en route to a 10-1 edge.

Matt Anderson and Ryne Harper combined to give up just a hit and a walk over the final 2.1 innings to secure the victory. The Generals are now a season-best 11 games over .500 at 29-18. D.J. Peterson singled in the ninth to give the team 15 hits for the first time in 2016, and he extended his hitting streak to seven games as well.

One night after notching seven extra-base hits, the Generals had six knocks go for extra bases on Friday. O'Neill, Heredia and Landry all had three hits in the contest, combining to go 9-for-14, with four runs and six RBIs in the middle of the lineup.
