Scrappers Offense Overwhelms Muckdogs

June 25, 2016

(Niles, OH)-After struggling to score any runs over the previous five games, the Scrappers were looking for a spark on Saturday night. After falling behind in the top of the first inning, the offense found what they were looking for as the Scrappers would use a six run fourth inning on their way to a 10-4 win over the Batavia Muckdogs at Eastwood Field.

Batavia jumped out to an early 4-0 lead on Scrappers' starter Luis Jimenez. After allowing back to back one out singles, Jimenez walked David Gaunt to load the bases. Isaiah White would connect on a grand slam to force the Scrappers to play from behind.

The Scrappers would start to chip away at the deficit in the bottom of the second inning. With one out, Logan Ice connected on his first professional homerun, a solo blast to rightfield to cut the deficit to 4-1.

In the bottom of the third inning the Scrappers would make it a one run game. Gavin Collins doubled to start the inning. A Silento Sayles walk would follow. Both runners would be moved into scoring position on a Gabriel Mejia sacrifice bunt. Alexis Pantoja followed with a two run double to clear the bases and cut the score to 4-3.

Mahoning Valley took the lead for good in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Scrappers would send 10 batters to the plate in a six run inning. The big hits in the inning coming from Pantoja and Jodd Carter. Pantoja would triple off the wall in rightfield to score two runs. Carter would follow two batters later with a two run double to put the Scrappers up 9-4.

In the bottom of the sixth inning the Scrappers would add an insurance run. With one out Mejia walked and stole second. He would come around to score on a two out RBI double from Luke Wakamatsu to push the score out to the final of 10-4.

Luis Jimenez started for the Scrappers but went just 1.1 innings. He allowed 4 runs, all earned, on 6 hits. He would walk 1 and did not record a strike out. Argenis Angulo (1-0) earned the win with 2.1 innings of relief. He allowed just 1 hit and no runs. He did not walk a batter and struck out 3.
