Two more players join Salem-Keizer

Gio Brusa and Greg Brody are added to the Volcanoes' roster
June 28, 2016

KEIZER, Oregon - The San Francisco Giants transferred two additional players to the Short Season A Salem-Keizer on Tuesday afternoon. Outfielder Gio Brusa comes from the 2016 Draft and RHP Greg Brody, a 2014 draft pick, comes from the AZL Giants.

Gio Brusa, out of the University of the Pacific, was drafted in the 6th round of the 2016 MLB Draft with the 185th overall pick. The 6-3, 220-pound, switch-hitting outfielder had an impressive senior season at Pacific. Brusa batted .337 on the year with 28 extra-base hits (14 2B, 14 HR) all while batting in 46 runs and walking 26 times. He was named to the All-West Region first team. Out of high school, Brusa turned down an offer from the Red Sox prior to the draft to be drafted in the fifth round in order to pursue a collegiate career. He was subsequently drafted in the 37th round by the Atlanta Braves. Brusa played two summer seasons in the Cape Cod League, one being named the top position player and the other as an all-star, leading his team to winning the championship. An outstanding collegiate career propelled him into the top rounds of the draft, and now a trip to Keizer where he can begin his climb up the Giants' minor league system.

Greg Brody, was drafted in 2014 by the Giants in the 11th round with the 328th overall pick out of Belmont. At Belmont, Brody was a two-way player, spending time in the infield and as a relief pitcher. During his senior campaign, he hit a mere .197 but lead the team with a 1.57 ERA in 22 appearances. The 6-2, 185-pound, right-handed pitcher appeared in fourteen games for the AZL Giants in the 2014 season and compiled a win-loss record of 1-1. Brody threw a total of 14.1 innings with an ERA of 0.63. An injury forced him to miss the 2015 season. This season, he has thrown two innings for the AZL Giants without giving up a hit, run or walk while striking out two batters.

The Volcanoes welcome the additions after losing three of five games to the Tri-City Dust Devils in the past series. The bat and defense of Brusa and the late-inning relief from Brody will aid the Volcanoes as they look for another series win against Hillsboro in a three-game set that begins on Tuesday night.
