Brewers affiliate leaving Brevard County

Manatees moving to Kissimmee, will use fan vote to change name
June 29, 2016

After 22 years, Class A Advanced Brevard County is leaving town.

The Manatees will relocate to Kissimmee, Florida in Osceola County in time for the 2017 season. They have subleased Viera's Space Coast Stadium through the Washington Nationals, but the pro team is leaving that facility -- which they used during Spring Training -- to move into a new stadium in West Palm Beach with the Houston Astros. That helped pave the way for the Manatees' exit.

"We are going to make sure that [fans] have a fantastic time at the ballpark, they are entertained, that we make them laugh," Brevard County president Joe Harrington told WFTV9 ABC.

The Milwaukee affiliate will change its team name, enlisting a fan vote to help choose the new mascot. Fans can submit team name suggestions at www.probaseballbackincentralflorida.com.

"We want your submission," Harrington told the station.

Osceola County has been without a team since the Astros left for West Palm Beach, and the United States Specialty Sports Association will move into Space Coast Stadium, an expected boost in visitors expected soften the blow for Brevard County. The Manatees have resided there since 1994.
