Ford Drives Four Hits, Offense Stuck in Neutral in 4-1 Loss

August 16, 2016

Akron scored twice in the top of the first inning and used a strong bullpen outing to defeat the Thunder, 4-1, on Tuesday night at ARM & HAMMER Park.

Will Carter suffered the defeat allowing three runs over five innings on the mound for the Thunder. Akron got an RBI single from Jordan Smith and an RBI groundout from Eric Stamets in the inning to take the 2-0 advantage.

The Thunder picked up a run in the home half of the first inning when Tyler Wade tripled to right to start the frame and Dustin Fowler brought him in with a sacrifice fly. From there, the offense couldn't capitalize stranding seven baserunners across their first five at-bats.

Tuesday night also marked a sloppy game for the Thunder defensively as they committed four errors, one shy of their season-high. While none of the errors led to runs, it made life difficult for Thunder pitching who surrendered 16 baserunners on just seven hits.

Mike Ford was the lone bright spot for the offensive attack with a four-hit game on Tuesday night. It was the fourth four-hit game by a Thunder batter this season. Thunder pitching retired 16 batters at one point including a 9-up, 9-down performance from Travis Hissong. Akron scratched out their final run against Cale Coshow with two outs in the ninth inning.

Your Thunder continue their homestand on Wednesday night at 7pm against the Akron Rubberducks. LHP Daniel Camarena will start for the Thunder, RHP D.J. Brown will go for Akron. It's Wine Wednesday with $2.50 glasses of wine available on the main concourse and Baseball Bingo presented by Deborah Heart and Lung Center. Tickets are available by phone at 609-394-3300 or online at TrentonThunder.com.
