BayBears comeback to top Pensacola 3-2

PENSACOLA, Fla. - The Mobile BayBears came back to beat the Pensacola Blue Wahoos by a final of 3-2 on Wednesday night at Blue Wahoos Stadium. With the BayBears win, Mobile gained a game on the first-place Mississippi Braves who lost at Biloxi. With just 12 games left in the 2016 regular season, the BayBears are only four games back of first place.

Mobile (29-28, 61-66) broke a 2-2 tie when Jamie Westbrook scored the winning run in the eighth inning. Dawel Lugo hit a hard ground ball down the third base line that allowed Westbrook to score from third on the play.

Pensacola (30-28, 68-58) struck first with two runs in the first inning. Brandon Dixon doubled to drive in Phillip Ervin with the first run. The second scored when Sebastian Elizalde scored on a wild pitch.

The BayBears pulled within a run after cutting Pensacola's lead to 2-1 in the top of the second inning. Dawel Lugo scored on a RBI base hit from Oscar Hernandez. Then in the top of the seventh inning, Gabriel Guerrero tied that game at 2-2 with a two-out, RBI base knock down the left field line.

BayBears RHP Miller Diaz (1-0) earned the win after throwing a scoreless inning of relief in the seventh inning. RHP Matt Stites (14) earned the save after tossing two scoreless innings to record the final six outs and secure the BayBears win.

Mobile takes the field against Pensacola again on Thursday with first pitch at Blue Wahoos Stadium set for 6:30 p.m.
