NORWICH, CT - The Connecticut Tigers completed the 2016 season with a 10-1 win over the Tri-City ValleyCats.
The win completes a 41-35 season that saw the Tigers win the second-most games in a single-season, post 25 wins at Dodd Stadium, most for a single-season and set a new attendance record with 82,488 fans coming through the gates this season. The Tigers manager Mike Rabelo also surpassed Andrew Graham (107) for the most wins as manager of the Connecticut Tigers.
The Tigers won their last game of the season with Josh Lester driving in a Tigers game-high five runs. Lester struck two-run double to right field in the first inning, making it 2-0 Tigers. Then Lester clubbed a bases-clearing double down the right field line to extend the Tigers lead to 6-0 in the fifth.
In the fifth inning the Tigers sent 13 batters to the dish and scored seven runs on four hits. Tanner Donnels added to the Tigers lead in the frame with a two-run double over a leaping ValleyCats first basemen, Connor Goedert, staking the Tigers to an 8-0 lead.
All-Star Locke St. John pitched a shutout performance in six innings of work. The southpaw out of Pell City, AL scattered three hits and tied his season-high with seven punch outs. The victory was St. John's sixth of the year with Connecticut.
