Cutters 2016 Season Comes to a Close

The Cutters ended the 2016 season with a 4-2 loss to the Pinckney Division Champion State College Spikes on Sunday at BB&T Ballpark. Williamsport finishes the season with a record of 39-36, 2nd place in the Pinckney Division.

The Spikes took advantage of a shaky start by Cutters starter Julian Garcia, striking for three runs in the top of the 2nd inning. After Ricardo Bautista drew a leadoff walk, Elier Rodriguez reached on a Darick Hall fielding error to give State College a pair of runners in front of Danny Hudzina.

Hudzina drilled a 0-2 Garcia offering deep over the leftfield wall to give the Spikes a 3-0 lead. It was the 3rd home run of the season for Hudzina and upped his RBI total to 23.

Hudzina added on to the Spikes lead in the top of the 3rd inning, driving a double down the line in left, off of Kenny Koplove, chasing home Ricardo Bautista to give State College a 4-0 lead and give Hudzina his 24th RBI of the year.

Williamsport mounted a rally in the bottom of the 3rd inning, getting a RBI sacrifice fly from Enmanuel Garcia, scoring Luis Espiritu o make it a 4-1 Cutters deficit. It was Garcia's 19th RBI of the season.

David Martinelli doubled home Chandler Hall later in the inning, cutting the Spikes lead in half at 4-2. It was Martinelli's 25th RBI of the season.

Chandler Hall finished the night with his 2nd three-hit game, going 3-for-4 with a three singles and a run scored. David Martinelli finished the night, going 2-for-4 with a RBI double, giving him a final total of 25 to end the season.

Julian Garcia took the loss in his final start of the season, allowing three runs, two earned, on two hits and a home run over and inning of work.

Kenny Koplove, Alex Kline and Carlos Indriago went the final eight innings of relief, allowing just one run on four hits and five walks while striking out six Spikes batters.

Before the game it was announced that left handed pitcher Ranger Suarez was named the Rankin Johnson Pitcher of the Year for Williamsport.

Cutters outfielder Luke Maglich was named the Max & Alta Border Good Guy Award for Community Service, as well as the 2016 Crosscutters team MVP, as voted on by fellow players and coaches.

Cutter Carvings - Darick Hall finished the season with a team-high in home runs (9) and RBI (29), while Ranger Suarez lead the pitching staff with six wins...The Cutters finished the 2016 season with 31-21 record inside the Pinckney division...State College takes the 2016 SawBuck Series, 7 games to 3...
