Three Volcanoes named to end-of-year all-star team

MISSOULA, Mont. -- Volcanoes outfielders Gio Brusa and Heath Quinn and infielder Kevin Rivera were named to the Northwest League's end-of-season All-Star team, the league announced on Monday. The announcement came on the final day of the Northwest League regular season. Salem-Keizer's three selections were tied with Everett for most among any team in the league.

Heath Quinn, the Giants' 2016 third-round draft pick, put together one of the better seasons from the plate in Salem-Keizer Volcanoes history. In 54 games with the club, Quinn was batting .337 -- a mark that not only ranked second in the league this season, but will rank seventh among all-time Volcanoes players. He will also finish Top 10 in Salem-Keizer history in doubles (19) and on-base percentage (.423). Quinn completely showed up the competition with his slugging percentage of .571, which was far and away the best in the league (next best was .496) and will go down as the second-best slugging percentage in team history. The mark also ranks 11th accross all of Minor League Baseball. Quinn was recently called up to Class-A Advanced San Jose.

Gio Brusa, a 2016 sixth rounder out of Pacific, flashed the power in his first professional season with the Volcanoes. The Salem-Keizer slugger finished top three in the NWL in home runs (1st, 10), slugging percentage (3rd, .491) and extra-base hits (3rd, 27). Brusa becomes just the 10th Volcanoes player all-time to hit double-digit homers in a single season, and he did it in just 53 games. The outfielder had five games with three or more hits on the season.

Kevin Rivera, was the ultimate sign of consistency for Salem-Keizer in 2016, stringing together three separate hitting streaks of 10 or more games. Rivera began the year with an 11-game hitting streak, had a midseason streak of 14 games, and ended the year on a 12-game hitting streak. His 81 total hits on the year ranked Top 5 in the Northwest League and was one hit shy of qualifying for the Top 10 in Salem-Keizer history. Entering Monday's finale, Rivera was batting .324, once again good for a Top 5 ranking in the league.

Salem-Keizer finished the 2016 with a convincing win over the Boise Hawks on Monday night.
