White Sox Announce Managerial Hire of Former Cougars Manager, Rick Renteria

GENEVA, Ill. - Former Kane County Cougars manager Rick Renteria was officially named the 40th manager in the history of the Chicago White Sox on Monday. Renteria managed the Cougars during the 1999 season, in which he led the team to a regular season record of 78-59 while earning Midwest League Manager of the Year honors following a trip to the Midwest League Playoffs Semifinal round.
Renteria joins the White Sox with over 30 years of professional baseball experience, including spending one season as the Chicago Cubs manager (2014) while serving as the White Sox bench coach during the 2016 season. During his 13-year professional playing career, Renteria spent time with multiple Major League clubs including Pittsburgh, Seattle and Florida.
Following yesterday's announcement, Renteria becomes the first manager in the history of baseball to lead the Cougars, Cubs and White Sox.
"The Cougars organization is thrilled to hear that Rick will be taking on the managerial position with the White Sox," said Cougars Vice President and General Manager Curtis Haug. "As the only MLB affiliated minor league team in the Chicagoland area, we are proud that the legacy Kane County has built will continue to shine on the South Side."
At least one former Cougars player has made their Major League debut each season dating back to 1993. The list includes Major League All-Stars, World Series Champions as well as former MVP, Rookie of the Year, Gold Glove, Silver Slugger and Triple Crown winners.

The Cougars, Class-A Minor League affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks, have been at the forefront of family-friendly entertainment since 1991. In 2015, the franchise became the first Class-A team in Minor League Baseball history to welcome 11 million fans through the gates.
