LOWELL, MA - The Lowell Spinners, short-season affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, are proud to announce that Main Street Baseball, the team's new ownership group, has been named the 2016 Organization of the Year by Ballpark Digest. The award is given annually to the organization that creates the best overall fan experience in Minor League Baseball.
"What a wonderful honor," said Dave Heller, who purchased the Spinners from Drew Weber in June "I'm thrilled, and very happy to accept on behalf of all of the people who have helped our four franchises be as successful as they are in Minor League Baseball."
In addition to the Spinners, Heller owns three other teams around the country including the Quad Cities River Bandits, the Wilmington Blue Rocks, and the Billings Mustangs. One thing that all four teams have in common is their dedication to elevating the fan experience year after year.
"One of the things that we have tried to do is put together a group of clubs that are among the very best in each league that we are in," said Heller. "When you look at the New York-Penn League, that conversation always includes Lowell. To have the opportunity to get a team like Lowell and a market like Lowell, that opportunity doesn't come along very often."
"There's no doubt Main Street Baseball is one of the leading groups in all of Minor League Baseball, and we're so pleased to recognize that status with this award," said Ballpark Digest Publisher Kevin Reichard. "All four Main Street Baseball teams are leaders in their leagues, and all four are distinguished by a commitment to providing the best fan experience possible."
Heller's impact was noticed immediately in Lowell with the addition of the Gator Gondola, a new swinging pirate ship ride in the Circle Health Foul Ball Fun Zone. In addition to the Gator Gondola, the team also introduced several new promotions in 2016, including dropping 1,000 pounds of candy from a helicopter, giving away a free car, and a $2500 cash drop. The team has already announced plans for new rides, upgrades to the park, and new promotions for the 2017 season.
Baseball returns to Lowell on June 19, when the Spinners take on the Vermont Lake Monsters. Ticket packages, including season tickets, mini plans, pick-a-plans, and more, are now available. For more information, visit lowellspinners.com or contact the box office at (978) 459-1702.
