CLINTON, IA (Nov. 28, 2016) - The Seattle Mariners continued to deal in advance of the Winter Meetings, shipping 2015 and 2016 Clinton LumberKing Alex Jackson to the Atlanta Braves for pitchers Rob Whalen and Max Povse.

Jackson, 20, was drafted by the Mariners in the first round (6th overall) during the 2014 MLB draft out of Rancho Bernardo High School in San Diego California. The California native has spent the majority of his last two seasons in Clinton helping the team to the Midwest League Championship series last season. In 120 games in Clinton, Jackson batted .222 (98/441) with 11 home runs, and 68 RBI.

Whalen, 22, is the only player involved in the trade with Major League experience. After beginning the 2016 season in Double A, with the Mississippi Braves, Whalen made his MLB debut on August, 7 2016 against the Pittsburgh Pirates. For Whalen, this is the second time he has been involved in a trade after beginning his pro career in the New York Mets organization.

Poves, 23, began the season in high A with the Carolina Mudcats and earned a promotion to the Double A Mississippi Braves where he finished the season. Povse is a North Carolina native who was drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the 3rd round of the 2014 MLB Draft out of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.

Jackson is the sixth former LumberKing to be involved in a trade over the last two weeks. Major and Minor league from offices will be converging on Washington D.C. next week for the Winter Meetings December 4 through the 8.
