Last month we told you about five new players that could join the El Paso Chihuahuas roster next season. There have been other recent transactions that could affect the Chihuahuas in 2017.

Here are eight potential players you could see at Southwest University Park later this year.

RHP Zach Lee was claimed on waivers by the Padres in mid-December after pitching for two Pacific Coast League teams, Oklahoma City and Tacoma, last season. Lee has one career MLB appearance with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2015 and faced the Chihuahuas in their 2016 playoff series with Tacoma.

OF Rafael Ortega signed a minor league contract with the Padres in early December and could be an El Paso outfielder in April. Ortega divided 2016 between the Los Angeles Angels and Triple-A Salt Lake, where he played against the Chihuahuas.

INF/OF Jose Pirela was with El Paso for most of the 2016 championship season and re-signed with the Padres after he became a free agent last fall. Pirela has major league time with the New York Yankees and San Diego.

RHP Andre Rienzo signed a minor league deal with the Padres in December and actually pitched at Southwest University Park twice in May 2016 while with New Orleans. Rienzo reached MLB with the Chicago White Sox and Miami Marlins and is one of only three Brazilian major leaguers in history.

C Hector Sanchez has re-signed with the Padres after becoming a free agent in December, like Pirela. Sanchez was a phenomenal hitter for the Chihuahuas last season, batting .324 with 13 home runs in only 55 games.

RHP Craig Stammen signed a minor league contract with the Padres after dividing last season between three minor league clubs in the Cleveland Indians organization. Stammen has considerable major league experience, having pitched for the Washington Nationals from 2009-2015.

INF Christian Villanueva signed with San Diego after he was not tendered a contract by his previous organization, the Chicago Cubs. Villanueva spent most of 2016 on the Cubs major league disabled list after he broke his ankle in February.

INF Brett Wallace spent the first two months of the 2015 season with the Chihuahuas before moving up to San Diego. He elected free agency after spending all of 2016 with the Padres and has re-signed a minor league deal with San Diego.
