CSN Bay Area's Alex Pavlovic spoke with both Mac Williamson and Jarrett Parker yesterday in Arizona, focusing specifically on the fact that the two are competing against each other - and against a handful of veterans - for an Opening Day spot in left field in San Francisco.
Williamson acknowledged that competition, but made a point of saying that it's not a vicious or mean one: "It's fun. We're throw partners, we're in the same hitting group… we were hanging out last night at Top Golf. You know, we're close."
Parker provided a similar statement, saying that he and Mac are friends. "I want to help him and he wants to help me. I want Mac to be as good as he can be and I know he wants the same for me."
Williamson, who is 26 and still has options, is hitting .286 (6-for-21) with two homers. Parker, who is 29 and out of options, is hitting .222 (4-for-18) with two home runs and seven RBI.
