The New Orleans Baby Cakes offense busted out for season highs in runs, hits and homers and matched their largest win of the season with a 14-4 romp in Colorado Springs on Wednesday night.
The Baby Cakes have won three consecutive games for the first time this season.
Destin Hood led the attack with two home runs and five RBI. Brandon Barnes and Matt Juengel also homered and each added three RBI, and even starting pitcher Kelvin Marte got in on the act with a home run, the first by a New Orleans pitcher since Brad Hand in 2014.
After going his first 18 road games of the year without a home run, Hood has gone deep three times in the first two games of the series. Hood has seven homers in his last 10 games and has moved into a tie for fourth in the Pacific Coast League with 11 for the season.
Tomás Telis added three hits to the Baby Cakes' season-best total of 16, helping New Orleans score in each of the game's first six innings to build a 14-1 lead.
That was more than enough for Marte (1-1), who breezed through the first five innings before allowing a pair of runs in the sixth. The left-hander still turned in a quality start and owns a 1.78 ERA over his last six Triple-A starts, dating to last season.
Josh Hader (3-4) allowed eight runs on nine hits in three innings and took the loss for the Sky Sox, who have dropped three in a row.
The 'Cakes look to clinch their first series victory of the campaign in the third game of the set on Thursday at 7:40 p.m.
