JACKSON, Tenn. (July 25, 2017) - The Mobile BayBears, the Double-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, cut a three-run deficit to just one but could not recover from a six-run sixth inning, dropping the series opener 10-4 to the Jackson Generals Tuesday night at the Ballpark at Jackson.
The BayBears (43-56 overall, 13-17 second half) nearly erased an early Jackson lead. Trailing 4-1 after five innings, Jose Rojas hit a two-out, two-run double in the top of the sixth to knock Taylor Clarke (9-6) out of the game. However, Mason McCullough struck out Josè Briceño to end the frame and preserve Jackson's lead.
In the bottom of the sixth, the Generals (63-48, 16-15) plated six runs on six hits to increase their advantage to 10-4. Travis Denker and Jamie Westbrook had RBI singles, two runs scored on groundouts, and another on a wild pitch. Westbrook finished the game 2-for-4 with three RBI.
Clarke earned his ninth win of the season, allowing three runs on four hits with six strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings pitched. Jaime Barria (1-3) took the loss for Mobile, as he exited the game before the five-inning mark for the third straight start, giving up four runs on five hits.
