McDonnell's Four Hits Not Enough in 4-3 Loss

Bees lose fifth straight game

(Beloit, WI) - The Burlington Bees (45-61) lost their fifth straight game, losing 4-3 in 12 innings to the Beloit Snappers (54-51) on Monday night at Pohlman Field.

After going scoreless in their last 36 innings, the Bees opened the scoring in the second inning. Franklin Navarro started the inning with a double before Sam McDonnell launched a home run over the right field wall, giving the Bees a 2-0 lead in the second inning. 
Bees' starter Joe Gatto threw five shutout innings. The right-hander has only allowed four runs in his last five starts, totaling 25 innings. The Snappers went to work on the Bees' bullpen in the bottom of the sixth inning. After Adrian Almeida retired the first batter in the inning, the Bees' left-hander hit Jesus Lopez. The next two batters reached on walks to load the bases. Josh Vidales tied the game, lining a single to center, scoring a pair of runs. Almeida was able to get out of the inning with the game still tied. 
Artemis Kadkhodaian opened the top of the eighth with a double off the wall in left and then stole third base. With one out, Jonah Todd was hit by a pitch, putting runners one the corners. Derek Jenkins hit an infield single out in front of home, scoring Kadkhodaian, giving the Bees a 3-2 lead. 
The Bees' lead didn't last long. After Bees' reliever Carlos Salazar retired the first two batters of the bottom of the eighth inning, Kyle Nowlin hit an opposite field home run to right field, tying the game at three. 
The game would go to extra innings. With the score still tied at three in the 12th, Trace Loehr walked with one out,. After an error and an intentional walk loaded the bases, Mike Martin reached on a fielder's choice, scoring Loehr, giving Beloit the 4-3 win. Snappers' reliever Yordys Alejo (4-3) earned the while Ronnie Glenn (2-2) was charged with the loss.
The Bees and Snappers will wrap up the series on Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m at Pohlman Field in Beloit, Wisconsin.
