CLINTON, IA (August 16, 2017) - The Clinton LumberKings came from behind to walk-off the Kane County Cougars in a 5-4 10 inning win on Wednesday night at Ashford University Field. Jhombeyker Morales factored into several LumberKings (22-30, 53-66) rallies; tying the game in the eighth and winning the game with his fourth hit of the night in the 10th.
Kane County (28-24, 67-52) scored all their runs in the top d the second inning off LumberKings starter Danny Garcia. The Cougars sent nine me to the plate in the inning to score their four runs on five hits. Jose Herrera slugged his first home run of the season to begin the scoring, a two-run home run to left, and the rally was capped with a Yan Sanchez RBI double.
The LumberKings then began to mount their comeback in the bottom of the third. Clinton pushed two runs across in the inning on three hits and an error.
Following a run in the bottom of the fifth, the LumberKings tied the game in the eighth. Joe Rizzo singled to lead-off the inning and scored two batters later on a two-out Morales double off the wall in left.
The game then remined tied into extra innings. The LumberKings received strong relief outings from Michael Koval, JP Sears, and Tyler Watson. Watson (1-0) earned the win for Clinton, his first of the season, with a perfect 10th inning.
In the bottom of the 10th, the LumberKings loaded the bases against Cougars reliever Trevor Simms (3-2). Morales then rolled the fifth pitch of his at-bat up the middle and past a drawn in infield to score Johnny Slater from third for the game's winning run.
Morales went 4-for-4 at the plate for Clinton with a double and two RBI. He is now six for his last six at-bats.
The LumberKings will conclude their four-game series with the Kane County Cougars on Thursday night. Right-handed pitcher Ljay Newsome (7-8, 4.47) will take the ball for Clinton and face the Cougars right-handed pitcher Connor Grey (1-1, 3.27). Game time is slated for 6:30 PM (C.D.T.) with the pregame show on 100.3 FM WCCI beginning at 6:15 PM, Erik Oas will be on the call. Thursday will be "Thirsty Thursday" with fans 21 years and older able to enjoy $1 Coors Light and Miller Lite draft beers. The LumberKings will also be taking the field in special throwback jerseys as part of "Throwback Thursday" at Ashford University Field.
