CLINTON, IA (August 28, 2017) - For the third straight game the Clinton LumberKings managed just one run, falling to the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 6-1 on Monday night at Ashford University Field. The loss puts the LumberKings (30-34, 61-70) four games back of the wild card leading Peoria Chiefs with six games left to play.
Steven Ridings started for Clinton and threw the ball well over his five plus innings of work. Through the first four innings, all Wisconsin (29-35, 55-77) had to show for their time at the plate was a Dallas Carroll solo home run in the top of the fourth inning.
Carroll's home run was his third of the season. The homer scored the game's first run and put the Timber Rattlers on top for good.
Ridings (1-3) would work into the sixth inning but fail to record an out in the top of the sixth. The two runners that reached against him in the inning would score on a Demi Orimoloye two-run single to center that gave the Timber Rattlers a 3-0 lead.
Clinton failed to put much pressure on Timber Rattlers starter Thomas Jankins. Over the first five innings, the LumberKings tallied just one hit off Jankins (9-8) who was given the win for his five-shutout innings of work.
In the bottom of the sixth, the LumberKings plated their only run of the night. Billy Cooke led off the inning with a single, moved to second on a stolen base, and then to third on a wild pitch. Johnny Slater then knocked in Cooke with an RBI infield single to make it 3-1.
Wisconsin then put the game out of reach in the top of the ninth inning. Four straight Timber Rattlers hits led to three runs against LumberKings reliever Seth Elledge.
Colton Cross worked the final two innings for Wisconsin and earned the save for his time out, his second of the season.
The LumberKings will now take Tuesday off before opening their final home series of the season with the first of three games against the Kane County Cougars on Wednesday night. Clinton left-hander Nick Wells (5-9, 6.41) will take the ball for the LumberKings and face Kane County's left-handed pitcher Mack Lemieux (7-5, 4.70).
