Thunder Split Twinbill with Baysox

BOWIE, Md. - The Thunder pulled out a 4-3 victory in the first game of a doubleheader against the Bowie Baysox before falling, 10-1, in the nightcap at Prince George's Stadium.
In the bottom of the first inning of game one, Anthony Santander ran out an infield single before Corban Joseph drove a pitch from Thunder (38-26) starter Domingo Acevedo over the right field wall for a two-run homer.
But with starter Brian Gonzalez on the mound for Bowie (29-33) in the fifth, Francisco Diaz stepped to the plate with a runner on first and tied the game with a towering two-run homer to left field. Trey Amburgey and Billy Fleming followed with back-to-back singles to chase Gonzalez from the game, and Zack Zehner greeted reliever Branden Kline with a ground ball single to center, plating Amburgey from second for a 3-2 Thunder advantage.
The lead was short-lived, as Corban Joseph drove in his third run of the game with a RBI-single off Jordan Foley in the bottom of the fifth. But Trenton struck back on a go-ahead RBI-single to left field by Chris Gittens in the top of the seventh, and Caleb Frare worked around a pair of two-out baserunners in the bottom half to end the game.
In the second game, Thunder left-hander Ryan Bollinger surrendered four runs in the first inning, as a line drive by Aderlin Rodriguez sailed past diving right fielder Jhalan Jackson for a bases-loaded, three-run triple. Martin Cervenka followed with a single to left field, scoring Rodriguez.
After yielding four consecutive hits and three more runs in the second, Bollinger appeared to recover, retiring eight consecutive batters from the end of the second through the fourth inning. But Cervenka followed two Baysox hits in the bottom of the fifth with a three-run homer to right-center to extend Bowie's lead to 10-0.
The 10 runs and 10 hits allowed by Bollinger through five innings were the most by a Thunder starting pitcher this season.
Baysox starter Matthew Grimes had held Trenton scoreless through his three and two-thirds innings of work, and the Thunder plated their only run on a Devyn Bolasky RBI-single to left field in the sixth off reliever Reid Love.
Trenton stranded seven runners in the game, and went just 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position.
Your Thunder conclude the road trip on Thursday night at 6:35pm against the Senators. RHP Brody Koerner (0-0, 3.72) will start for the Thunder, and RHP Christian Binford (1-1, 3.52) will go for Bowie as Trenton seeks the series victory.
