Cutters Fall In Extra Innings

Williamsport, P.A.- After being no-hit through the first seven inning, the Crosscutters battled back to tie it in the 9^th, but came up short, falling 7-5 in 10 innings to Batavia.

Jhordany Mezquita got off to a great start for the Williamsport Crosscutters, retiring the first 10 batters that he faced, recording three strike outs along the way.
After retiring the first batter of the 4^th inning, Brayan Hernandez ripped a double to left field, giving the Muckdogs their first hit and a runner in scoring position.
Sean Reynolds drew a two-out walk, leading to two-run double from JD Osbourne scoring Hernandez and Reynolds to give the Muckdogs a 2-0 lead against Mezquita and the Crosscutters.
Mezquita worked a scoreless 5^th inning, his final inning of the outing before being relieved by Austin Ross. The lefty finished the night allowing two runs on three hits and a walk, striking out five over five innings of work.
Austin Ross allowed a lead off walk to Hernandez in the top of the 6^th inning, but Jesse Wilkening threw out Hernandez trying to swipe 2^nd base. Ross retired the next two to get out of the inning without allowing a run.
In the top of the 7^th, Albert Guaimaro ripped a triple to right-center, giving the Muckdogs an insurance run on 3^rd. With two out, Wilkening had a pitch pop off of his mitt to the back stop, allowing Guaimaro to score and give Batavia a 3-0 lead.
In the bottom of the 8^th, Jesse Wilkening was hit in the back of the helmet by a Zach Wolf fastball, forcing Wilkening to leave the game under his own power, and replaced by Rafael Marchan on the bases.
Seth Lancaster clubbed a Wolf offering into deep right-center field, one-hopping the wall for a RBI double to cut the deficit to 3-1 on the Cutters first hit of the night. It was the 5^th double and the 4^th RBI of the season for Lancaster.
Madison Stokes plated Lancaster with a RBI single into center field, making it a 3-2 deficit on Stokes 6^th RBI of the season.
In the bottom of the 9^th inning, the Cutters rallied, getting a lead off walk drawn by Danny Mayer. Jesus Henriquez popped up a sacrifice bunt attempt, caught by the catcher for the 1^st out, followed by a pop out by Marchan for the 2^nd out.
With Mayer at 1^st base, Seth Lancaster and Keudy Bocio recorded back-to-back single to load the bases with two outs in the inning for Jonathan Guzman. Guzman ripped a ground ball up the middle, stopped on a dive by the 2^nd basemen Denis Karas, who threw on to 1^st late, allowing Mayer to score from 3^rd and tie the game at 3-3, on Guzman's 11^th RBI of the season.
With the bases loaded and two outs, Ben Aklinski grounded to the 1^st basemen Sean Reynolds, who fielded the ball and then slipped on his way to the bag. Reynolds flipped on to the pitcher covering just in time to get Aklinski and leave the winning run at 3^rd base.
After tossing back-to-back perfect frames of relief, Luis Ramirez surrendered four runs in the top of the 10^th inning, two runs on a Bubba Hollis single and a two runs on a home run by Denis Karas, giving the Muckdogs a 7-3 lead in extras.
In the bottom of the 10^th inning, Madison Stokes doubled to deep right field, scoring Ben Aklinski from 2^nd base to make the deficit 7-4 with no outs. It was the 2^nd double and the 7^th RBI of the season for Stokes.
Danny Mayer singled in to center field, scoring Stokes to make it a 7-5 deficit with one out. It was the 9^th RBI of the season for Mayer.
Williamsport got the tying run on base, with the winning run at home plate, unfortunately, Seth Lancaster struck out swinging to end the ball game.
The Crosscutters continue the series with Batavia tomorrow night at BB&T Ballpark, with first pitch scheduled at 7:05 p.m.
