Kroon Lifts Cutters Late

Morgantown, W.V.- Matt Kroon delivered a two-run single in top of the 9th, giving the Cutters the lead for good, in their 5-4 win over the Black Bears.

Morgantown, W.V.- Matt Kroon delivered a two-run single in top of the 9th, giving the Cutters the lead for good, in their 5-4 win over the Black Bears.

After Ben Pelletier ripped his team-leading 12th double, Danny Mayer opened the scoring with a two-out single to center, scoring Pelletier to give the Crosscutters an early 1-0 lead.  
Pelletier got the offense going again in the top of the 5th inning, picking up his 2nd double of the night, scoring Matt Kroon to up the Cutters lead to 2-0 and gave Pelletier his team-leading 30th RBI of the season. Mayer picked up his 2nd RBI of the night, scoring Rafael Marchan with a single to cap the scoring in the frame and gave Mayer his 17th RBI of the season.
Juan Escorcia got the start for the Crosscutters, working five scoreless innings before the Black Bears were able to cross a run in the bottom of the 6th inning. Escorcia allowed one run, unearned, in 5.2 innings of work, allowing two hits and two walks while striking out six in the no decision.
Randy Alcantara took over with the Cutters leading 3-1 with two outs in the bottom of the 6th and tossed an inning of relief, allowing a run on two hits and a walk while striking out one. 
Austin Ross took over for Alcantara with two outs in the bottom of the 7th inning with the Cutters leading 3-2. Ross struck out the first batter that he faced, getting out of a jam and leaving the tying run in scoring position.
The Black Bears were able to take the lead in the bottom of the 8th inning against Ross, plating a pair of runs with two outs in the inning. Ross finished the night allowing two runs on three hits and a walk while striking out three. 
Jose Jimenez took over with the Cutters trailing 4-3 with two outs in the 8th inning, retiring the only batter that he faced on a ground out. Jimenez only faced the one batter, earning the win with the Cutters taking the lead in the top of the 9th.
Jake Holmes opened the 9th with a walk, followed by a Brayan Gonzalez single to right to give the Cutters the tying run and go-ahead runs on base with no outs. Jonathan Guzman advanced bith runners with a sacrifice bunt, bringing Matt Kroon to the plate.
Kroon, who hadn't recorded an RBI since July 6th, grounded a single through the right side of a drawn in infield scoring both Holmes and Gonzalez to give the Cutters a 5-4 lead and give Kroon his 4th & 5th RBI of the season.
Keylan Killgore entered in the bottom of the 9th, retiring all three batters he faced, striking out a pair as he earned his 9th save in as many opportunities. 
The Crosscutters wrap up their season series against West Virginia tomorrow night, first pitch is scheduled for 4:05 p.m.
